Liz Bilney of Eldon insurance and other companies associated to Arron Banks has started responding to Subject Access Requests sent her way.
We hope with what follows to clear some confusion.
Will PersonalData.IO further act as an intermediary?
We are not ready to do that. We have facilitated the initial request, and will facilitate Q&A through this site, but do not feel at the moment ready to take on a more active role for this many people.
Do I have to pay GBP 140?
Technically, you do until May 25th 2018. On that day, a new European regulation kicks in that makes such requests free (the General Data Protection Regulation). It also shortens the deadline for the "data controller" to respond, from 40 days to 30. So you basically lose nothing waiting for the GDPR to kick in, and you don't have to pay then.
Three of the companies no longer exist.
This is news to us. It wasn't the case just a few weeks ago. It might still be interesting to see if there was any data flow from/to these companies from the others.
They are asking for original bills sent to them.
This is the first time we encounter such procedure (their List B). Usually companies are satisfied simply with photocopies. This might of course be a tactic to create more friction to request your data, but there might also be legitimate concerns on the other side that you are who you say you are (but then, an original utility bill only protects you from impersonation from outside your household).
Details of the information required.
You do not have to narrow down your request. Just say you request "all your personal data and additional information, as described in the original request". The companies will still have to comply, with limited exemptions applying.
